Scoliosis & Scheuermann's kyphosis
At our clinic, we offer a dedicated service for people living with scoliosis and Scheuermann’s kyphosis. These conditions benefit from a focused approach to movement, posture, and strength, which is why we provide structured programs designed for individuals with these spinal differences.

What Is Scoliosis?
Scoliosis is more than just a sideways curve. It is a condition where the spine twists and shifts in three dimensions, creating “S” or “C”-shaped curves. This can change how the ribs, shoulders, waist and hips appear and how the back feels during daily activities.
Scheuermann’s kyphosis is a condition where the upper back becomes more rounded than usual. This happens when the vertebrae develop in a wedge shape during adolescence, creating a sharper forward curve that can affect posture and comfort
• Noticeable rounded upper back• Difficulty standing fully upright• Tightness or aching in the upper or mid-back• Hamstring tightness• Fatigue when sitting or standing• Reduced flexibility
How Physiotherapy Can Help
PSSE is one-to-one, curve-specific exercise for scoliosis and Scheuermann’s kyphosis. Your program is tailored to your individual curve pattern - focusing on posture correction, expansion and activation techniques, and maintaining improved alignment through daily activities.
Hands-on therapy can help reduce stiffness, ease muscle tension, and improve mobility. This may include (but is not limited to):• Soft tissue release• Joint mobilisation• Dry needlingManual therapy is often paired with exercise for long-term improvement.
Our Clinical Exercise service includes both Pilates-based movement and gym-based strength training. These sessions help improve spinal support, whole-body strength, flexibility, and movement confidence. While not as curve-specific as PSSE, Clinical Exercise provides an excellent foundation for building strength and stability. Most people begin one-to-one so your physiotherapist can teach safe, effective movement strategies, then transition into small group classes when appropriate.
• Pilates-based reformer or mat work• Free weights and resistance training• Cable or machine-based strength exercises• Mobility and flexibility training• Functional movement patterns for daily life
